Just Wondering

Do you have any New Year's traditions?
Do you eat black-eyed peas on New Year's Day?

When I was little, my mom would always make ham and black-eyed peas on New Years Day. She told us if we ate them, it would bring us good luck in the new year.

This year we had a brunch. No black-eyed peas. I should ask her why we aren't doing that anymore...

Sort off. Since 2001, we've hosted a New Years Eve party (sometimes it falls on New Years Day). It started as a fluke and we've continue every year except in 2004--with two kids 12 months apart that were 1 and 2 years old, I just didn't have the energy.

It's great because they kids are so into it. Their dad dresses up as Elvis and performs Elvis songs. This was a fluke as well because the first party began as a karoke party. We had about four neighbors that didn't have any plans for New Years Eve so Don and I decided at the last minute to host a NYE party. While people did participate, they really didn't want to. Of course Don and I sang because we were the hosts but it's really more Don's thing. So we started where we had open mic but Don would perform as Elvis. The Elvis thing took over just because people enjoyed it--so they didn't have to sing as well.

Yes, this year since we had the party on NYD, so we had blackeyed peas.
